More storybook sketches

Some more sketches for the children's book I just finished working on. It should hopefully be coming out sometime in the spring!

The manliest of men

Made this for my father for Christmas. Without him, I would never have learned what it means to be truly manly. I don't possess any of those qualities unfortunately.

In a bit of a rut. Random sketch vomit always helps.

Scribbles and scratches

Started a little tumblr for all my sketches that happen randomly throughout the day and just end up piling and being forgotten. Go to there.

The Field

Trying to work more with color and light. I have been concentrating too much on singular characters and not practicing large compositions with multiple elements. Time to stretch the legs!

Return of the blog

Finally getting time to play around. Going to try to make this a regular happening.

Pubertina: Rusty Sprinkler

So I haven't updated this in awhile... But it's only because I've finally been incredibly busy again thankfully. A new full time job and a bunch of freelance has taken away the free time. Anywho, I recently animated an episode of Emily Brundige's "Pubertina" which premiered today on the youtubes. It's normally animated by the very talented Josh Herron but I was lucky enough to get to step in for an episode. Enjoy!

Lazy Sunday

Having a relaxing Sunday sketching the activity outside my window. My apartment faces the street and it is a constant source of entertainment. I've seen everything from homeless people romances to a man hunt run by police. I probably stare out my window more than I watch TV.

Top of the sky

Doing some more playing in photoshop and really enjoyed playing with colors on this one. I'll probably make more than one version of this guy. But for now, sleep.

Park sketches

Spent a little relaxing time at the park the other day.

Ant hill

Just got off of a big and exhausting weeklong freelance job so now I'm taking a break and playing with some new ways to render my characters. This was a fun process and I think I'm going to explore it further. Also, poking at ants is how I spent most of my childhood summers.

sketch break

Taking a lunch break and playing with a bunch of photoshop brushes.

Acorn

Finished my 3rd exercise! It took about a week longer to finish than it should have but life has been busy lately. For this I just wanted to get a character moving around a little more. I think I'm going to step it up a notch in my next exercise.

Bosko and Louie

A couple more character clean ups for Id and Ego. I'm back in the process of putting together a pitch bible for this idea along with trying to produce more animation, job hunt, and figure out my student loan situation. See you never, sleep.

Long day sketch page

Applied to about a billion jobs today. Took a break and did some concept sketches for an idea that's throwing me out of my comfort zone a bit.

Spongebob

Watching some spongebob while breaking from some freelance work.

Limitless Power

Finished my second exercise! I didn't really plan anything, just kind of ran with it. I guess this is what happens when I improvise. It was a lot of fun and I may clean it up and color it at some point as well as make a few minor tweaks. But for now it's back to animating.

Coffee Shop Sketchplosion

Been bad about scanning in all my sketches recently. Here are a few from recent coffee/drawing/procrastinating sessions.

Mid day doodle

Working on another fun and quick animation and taking a break. Been brainstorming a concept with these characters so I've been doodling them a lot lately.

One of them movin pictures

So I haven't animated anything in a long time. Between job hunting, freelance work, and life I haven't had the energy to dedicate to doing what I came to LA to do in the first place. I'm changing that by doing a few quick exercises a week. Then I may start trying to put together some more complex pieces. We'll see what happens. To productiveness!!

Id and Ego break

Trying to get ready to go to Oklahoma for a week and finish a majority of my freelance. Ugggghhhh. Took an Id and Ego break.

Late night sketching

Been hitting the sketchbook every day for the past few weeks and it feels gooooooood. It should go without saying but it's easy to forget that just sitting and drawing for yourself a bit every single day is therapy by itself. I'm trying to make a habit of it.

I love you Winsor

Going through my gigantic Little Nemo Sunday strip book. I could look at these drawings for forever. Did a couple scribbles while doing it.

Black-White

Haven't messed around with this idea in awhile and have been thinking about space a lot lately. I want to paint nebulas. And yes, saying that sentence out loud sounded much more nerdy than it did in my head. But I love space. It's full of things that are beautiful, wondrous, and mysterious all that the same time. I can't get enough of it.

Self Portrait

So work seems to be drying up again.... NOT good considering I need to work to make money. And I need money to eat and stuff. But it has given me a little extra time to play. Which I will now continue to do. PEACE

Superhero sketches

Some concept sketches that weren't used for a project at work. I liked them and had fun doing them though!
